Coastal Clean Up Day 2024

Coastal Clean Up Day 2024

The 40th annual Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, September 21st! Join our community in keeping Santa Barbara County’s beaches and creeks clean! Volunteers of all ages can participate at any of the designated cleanup sites. Pre Registration is encouraged, and everyone who registers is entered into a prize drawing. Bring your own reusable supplies, and site captains will provide instructions and additional materials.

Started in 1985, Coastal Cleanup Day began in response to community concern over trash littering beaches. Since then, Coastal Cleanup Day has had over 1.6 million volunteers and over 25 million pounds of trash removed from beaches and waterways. Now the event is the largest volunteer effort in California, and has expanded it’s movement nationally and internationally. It also now takes place in every California county, including inland counties, where volunteers clean up the waterways. The movement also produces key data that provides policy makers and the public with important information and has helped in the development of debris reduction policies, like the banning of single-use plastic grocery bags in California.

Coastal Cleanup Day has helped our community preserve and maintain the health and cleanliness of our oceans, waterways, and marine life for decades. It's a great way for the community to come together to make a positive impact and we hope to see you there this Saturday!
