Coastal Cleanup Day 2026

Coastal Cleanup Day 2026

This Saturday, September 19, Santa Barbara County comes together for the 42nd annual Coastal Cleanup Day. Organized locally by Explore Ecology, the event invites volunteers of all ages to help remove litter and marine debris from beaches, creeks, parks, and waterways throughout the county. Cleanup sites will be active from 9 am to 12 p m, giving the community an easy way to spend a morning outdoors while helping protect the coastline that makes Santa Barbara such a special place to live.

Volunteers can choose from cleanup locations throughout Santa Barbara County, including spots such as Arroyo Burro Beach, Butterfly Beach, East Beach, Leadbetter Beach, Shoreline Park, and West Beach. Each location will have a site captain providing instructions and supplies, although participants are encouraged to bring reusable gloves, buckets or bags, and water bottles to help reduce additional waste. Pre-registration is not required, but those who sign up in advance will be entered into the Coastal Cleanup Day prize drawing.

Can't make it on September 19? You can still participate with a self-guided cleanup anytime during September and record what you collect through the Clean Swell app so it can be counted toward this year's impact. Whether you spend the morning cleaning your favorite beach, neighborhood, or local park, Coastal Cleanup Day is a simple way to give back and help keep Santa Barbara beautiful.
