This Saturday, September 20 2025, you can join California’s largest volunteer effort - Coastal Cleanup Day - by participating in Santa Barbara County’s beach, creek, and park cleanups. From Ellwood to East Beach, volunteers will help remove debris, protecting local wildlife and preserving the beauty of our coast. Your participation ensures that Santa Barbara’s shores remain pristine for generations to come!
This will be 41st annual Coastal Cleanup Day, with Santa Barbara cleanups being coordinated by Explore Ecology, a local nonprofit dedicated to environmental education and nature-based learning. Each cleanup site will have a captain on hand to provide necessary instructions and supplies. You are also encouraged to bring your own reusable gloves, buckets, and other supplies. This year's Coastal Cleanup will also include a fun "Trashure Hunt", with mini treasure chests hidden around certain cleanup sites- if you find one you win a prize!
