Santa Barbara Nonprofits & Charities: Sparks
Welcome to our latest blog series! Over the next four weeks, we will highlight Santa Barbara nonprofits and charities that are close to our hearts. At the David Kim Group, we are passionate about giving back and aim to bring awareness to the incredible work these local organizations do for our community and environment.
Sparks: Fur the Love of Paws
This week, we are spotlighting Sparks, an all-volunteer animal rescue nonprofit organization. Their mission is to bring adoptable homeless pets that have been abused, abandoned and overbred into their program for social rehabilitation and emotional recovery in order to re-home them to permanent loving homes and families. They also work to educate the public on spaying and neutering to end euthanasia and prevent backyard breeding.
Sparks founder Susan Parks grew up as an animal lover, volunteering at local shelters and the humane society, caring for animals and finding them homes. In 2011, Susan visited a shelter that was euthanizing animals, which once again sparked her drive and passion for rescuing animals. Susan created Sparks in 2014 to rescue and rehabilitate homeless pets and connect them with foster homes and adopters so they can find their forever homes.
Since its inception, Sparks has offered rescue, foster care, vet care, and sterilization to countless animals who otherwise would have been victim to euthanasia or homelessness. They have worked tirelessly to rehome animals to loving homes, properly screened and counseled by their adoption coordinators. Sparks hopes to one day acquire commercial land so that they may house as many animals as possible, building a sanctuary for animals to roam and socialize freely in a safe environment. Sparks has rescued countless animals and is dedicated to changing the lives of pets and families in our community for the better.
